The National Park
Through the Garapacha it is
acceded to the Mountain range
of Pila by the place known like
Landmark of the Four Faces, for
being this point in which the
four municipalities are united
that share these reliefs within the
8,836 hectares that east natural space occupies.
The Regional base Mountain range of Pila is not only
a dead ground by the wealth of its flora, since Special
Zone of Protection for the Birds has been declared
also. They honor the birds, being the predatory ones like
the real eagle, hawk pilgrim, or real owl most excellent.
The Park includes a declared area Special Zone of
Protection for Aves (ZEPA) for chova piquirroja
(Phyrrohocorax phyrrohocorax), that installs its colonies
in fissures and oquedades of rocks.
The flora of the Mountain range of Pila
includes/understands a total of six types of
habitats, being the most common holms-oak forest
and the savin clumps, these last ones in the highest
zones. Next to these arboreal species a total of
fourteen protected species has been entered as
they are the palm heart, madroño, the juniper, the
lentisco, cornicabra, the buckthorn and the
black hawthorn.
There are many walks on and
around the sierra de la Pila.
Maps can be obtained from the
Tourismo office in the centre of
Fortuna or alternatively the
reception at Camping Castillejo.
The best routes are however
obtained by talking to walkers
themselves who will only be two
happy to point you in the right
direction. Walking early in the
morning offers the opportunity of
seeing the wild boars. Also this
region has the beautiful Mountain
Eagles.
